Sheriff Leroy Martin with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office announced in a social media post that a suspect had been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting. Magnolia Police Department and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in response to a gunshot victim on January 13, 2024.

Authorities say the victim was not identified and there wasn’t any information about the location of the incident at the time. Later, the victim was pronounced deceased and identified as Patrick D. Jamerson by Columbia County Coroner Randy Reed. Authorities received information about a possible suspect and vehicle that may have been involved.

Deputies saw the person of interest and held him for questioning. Joshua L. Carrington was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree. He is being held at the Columbia County Detention Facility awaiting his first appearance.
