The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Jonesboro around 8 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Around 7:45 p.m., authorities received a call about an altercation between a father and his son at a residence in the 1100 block of West Jefferson Street in Jonesboro.

Once a Jonesboro Police officer reached the home, they confronted 26-year-old Joseph Lee McCrackin Jr. of Little Rock. ASP said a physical altercation ensued leading to the officer firing his service weapon. McCrackin was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The officer was taken to St. Bernard’s Medical Center with minor injuries.
