The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating a break-in and assault that happened around 11:50 p.m. last night. LMPD dispatch received a call about a home invasion in the 11000 block of Ridge Lake Drive. The caller informed police that a suspect had broken into her residence, assaulted her, and stolen valuables including a wallet, cash, and a phone. Then, the suspect fled on foot.
The victim is an 82-year-old woman who suffered severe lacerations and required immediate hospitalization. Police say the violent attack appears random so LMPD is releasing images of the person believed to be the suspect. Police are describing the suspect as a male with a black jacket and either a white or light gray hoodie and black pants.
The suspect may have been carrying a hatchet at one point in the 11200 block of Deering Road while checking door handles. Police believe the suspect was seen in the 11000 block of Ridge Lake Drive with a silver or chrome crowbar that may have been used to shatter the patio door to gain entry. Anyone who sees someone matching the suspect’s description is asked to call 911.
