The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has announced charges against a 22-year-old man after his 23-month-old son died of a fatal fentanyl overdose. According to a news release from MNPD, a three-month investigation led by Youth Services detectives led to criminal homicide and aggravated child neglect warrants being issued against 22-year-old Kelvin Blaylock Jr who was already in jail on unrelated failure to appear charges.
On October 3, MNPD officers responded to a residence on Ireland Street after Blaylock called 911 to report he had woken up and found his son unresponsive. Police say the child’s mother had dropped off Kashton Blaylock to be in his father’s care while she went to work.
The child was taken to Centennial Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy determined that the child’s cause of death was the toxic effects of fentanyl and metonitazene. Detectives say Blaylock admitted to using heroin two hours before finding Kashton unresponsive.
