The Houston Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in the slaying of 26-year-old Dominique Rice. The fatal shooting occurred at 4800 West 34th Street around 3:50 a.m. on November 12, 2023. The suspect, 18-year-old Joseph Refugio Ramos, has been charged with murder. According to HPD, patrol officers responded to a call reporting a shooting at the aforementioned address and found the victim lying on the sidewalk.
The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. HPD said a witness had been walking with Rice when a vehicle pulled up and several suspects exited. When the suspects confronted Rice, one of them pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled in a vehicle. The witness ran and was unharmed. On January 2, 2024, Ramos was charged. At this time, Joseph Refugio Ramos is not in custody.
