Fredericksburg Police investigating aggravated robbery and fatal shooting at Kwikcheck

Update – The Fredericksburg Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in Tuesday night’s homicide at the Kwikcheck convenience store. According to FPD, Criminal Investigations Division detectives received Crimestoppers tips and calls that led to the positive identification and whereabouts of the suspect in the aforementioned homicide. Detectives and Texas Rangers obtained an arrest warrant and search warrant for the suspect who was staying at an area motel.

Around 11:46 p.m., FPD officers executed arrest and search warrants and apprehended the suspect without incident. Awes Singko Rapet was taken into custody and charged with Capital Murder. He is currently being held at the Gillespie County Jail.

Original Story – The Fredericksburg Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery at the Kwikcheck convenience store at 1001 South State Highway 16. FPD officers responded to the location around 11:47 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male outside the store with a gunshot wound. First aid was immediately rendered.

The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Officers spoke with the on-duty clerk and learned that a male suspect had entered the store before going to the back to put on a white skull mask. Then, the suspect returned to the front discharging his weapon.

The suspect demanded money from the clerk who retrieved it from the cash drawer. The suspect left the store leaving the clerk unharmed. Officers reviewed store surveillance video and determined that the suspect was a male subject wearing a dark-colored hooded long-sleeve shirt or lightweight jacket. The suspect had a ball cap, blue jeans, gloves, and was carrying a duffel bag.

The suspect wore a white-colored skull mask. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fredericksburg Police Department at 830-997-7585.
