Seattle Police arrest kidnapping and carjacking suspect after victim jumped from moving vehicle

Seattle Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection to an armed kidnapping and a collision in Lake City on Tuesday night. According to a news release from the Seattle Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call of a robbery in the 10200 block of 15th Avenue Northeast just before 6 p.m. on January 2, 2024.

Police made contact with the female victim who said three males approached her before grabbing her purse and backpack. The suspects fled the scene in a black sedan. A short time later, dispatch received multiple reports of a two-car collision near the intersection of Lake City Way Northeast and Northeast 115th Street. According to SPD, witnesses said the vehicles were racing and the occupants fled the scene following the collision.

One passenger was still inside a vehicle with serious injuries. The passenger was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Both vehicles had been reported stolen. Around 6:36 p.m., officers responded to a carjacking turned abduction near the scene of the crash. The caller informed police that his friend was driving in the area when a man jumped into the passenger side of the vehicle, held a gun to his head, and demanded he drive.

The suspect forced the victim to engage in a short pursuit before the vehicle slowed and the victim jumped out of the moving vehicle. When the vehicle stopped at the intersection of 5th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 163rd Street in Shoreline, the suspect tried to drive away but couldn’t. He fled on foot and was later apprehended. The Seattle Police Department has not released the suspect’s name at this time.
