The Newport News Police has announced the identification of the victim in a December 26 homicide on St. Michaels Way. The Newport News Police Department has identified the victim as 38-year-old Demario Jevon Mapp of Hampton. Around 1:28 p.m. on December 26, 2023, officers responded to the 1400 block of St. Michaels Ways after gunshots were heard.

At the scene, police found an adult male victim outside suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities have not provided any suspect information at this time, but detectives confirm the investigation is ongoing.
