Lexington Police arrests 24-year-old woman for shooting a female downtown on New Year’s Day

The Lexington Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in a non-fatal shooting of a woman on New Year’s Day. Just before 2 a.m. on January 1, 2024, officers responded to the 100 block of West Main Street for a report of shots fired. Once police were at the scene, a woman with a gunshot wound arrived at an area hospital. The injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.

Detectives say they learned that the shooting stemmed from a disorder. 24-year-old Monteza Long was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Discharging a Firearm in City Limits. Long is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
