Muhammad Zalmai arrested for felony child endangerment, eluding, and reckless driving

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 19-year-old Muhammad Zalmai for attempting to elude police. Around 2:20 p.m. on December 31, 2023, a deputy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a black Chevy Camaro driving 90 MPH in a 45 MPH zone of southbound Richmond Highway near Twin Brook Drive.

When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly accelerated and weaved through traffic. As the pursuit continued, the Camaro continued along Richard Highway while passing vehicles across the double yellow lines. The suspect turned onto Hospital Center Boulevard toward I-95 and reached speeds of more than 100 MPH.

The suspect vehicle exited onto Centreport Parkway making a 90-degree turn before crashing into the guardrail. The suspect, Muhammad Zalmai, was quickly apprehended. Deputies found two juvenile relatives in the vehicle with Zalmai.

The juveniles were taken to the hospital to be checked for minor injuries. Zalmai is charged with felony child endangerment, eluding, reckless driving, and excess window tint. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail with no bond.
