Deputies with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Route 12b to investigate a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian on December 30, 2023, at about 6:45 p.m. Deputies initiated a preliminary investigation to determine the juvenile victim was struck by an oncoming truck while trying to rescue a dog.

One driver stopped to permit the juvenile to pass. A driver of a truck claimed his vision was obscured by oncoming headlights and dark roadways. The truck struck the victim.

The victim was airlifted to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile was listed in critical condition, according to a social media post at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 53-year-old Christopher Gannon of Oriskany Falls
