Broward County Sheriff's office hit and run

Broward County Detectives looking for vehicle involved in hit-and-run death of Joanne Rigg

Detectives with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal hit-and-run while attempting to identify the car involved. Around 6:30 a.m. on December 29, 2023, authorities received a call regarding a person lying in the roadway near the 1400 block of Northwest 31st Avenue in Pompano Beach. At the scene, responders found an adult female who had injuries consistent with being hit by an automobile.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was later identified as Joanne Rigg. Investigators say the preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was driving southbound on NW 31st Avenue from the Florida Turnpike when it hit the victim who was walking westbound on NW 31st Avenue.

Following the crash, the vehicle did not stop and continued driving southbound. Vehicle parts located at the scene suggest the vehicle is a 2017 to 2020 black Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe, according to detectives. The car would have damage to the hood and front grille. Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO THI Detective Carlos De Jesus at 954-321-4842 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
