Portland Police investigating after victim found stabbed abroad a MAX Train at the Goose Hollow Transit Station

Update – The Portland Police Bureau has identified the victim who was found stabbed at the Goose Hollow Transit Station as 23-year-old Juan Francisco Orellana-Gavarrete. The family has been notified and they’re asking for privacy at this time. The Medical Examiner ruled that the victim died of homicide by stabbing.

Portland Police believe a fight between the victim and suspect led to the stabbing near the Providence Park MAX Station. The victim continued on the train to the Goose Hollow Station where officers met him. Homicide Detectives identified 22-year-old Edel Cruz-Aragon as the suspect in the case.

On December 26, 2023, Central Precinct officers located the suspect at Southwest 9th Avenue and Southwest Oak Street. He was taken into custody and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Original Story – The Portland Police Bureau is investigating a fatal stabbing in the Goose Hollow neighborhood. Around 6:27 p.m. on December 24, 2023, officers with the Central Precinct responded to a Trimet MAX Train at the Goose Hollow Transit Station after a report of a person stabbed aboard the train.

At the scene, officers located an adult male victim suffering from a stab wound. Before paramedics arrived, officers provided emergency medical aid. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Homicide Detail detectives responded to initiate their investigation.

Authorities say there is a suspect at large, but they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
