The Delaware State Police has announced the arrest of 33-year-old Raheem Sanders for drug charges after a traffic stop in Newark. Around 6 p.m. on December 21, 2023, members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force were patrolling the area of Jenmar Shopping Plaza at 430 South Old Baltimore Pike in Newark.
The officers saw a black Chevrolet Impala with a temporary Pennsylvania registration enter the shopping center. A computer inquiry determined that the registration was not valid. Detectives carried out a traffic stop and witnessed the driver dump a plastic baggie into a Wawa cup as they approached.
Authorities say Sanders refused multiple verbal commands and threw a crystal rock like substance on the ground. As detectives removed the suspect from the vehicle, he allegedly stomped on the substance which later tested positive as methamphetamine. Following a brief struggle, Raheem Sanders was taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle and Sanders uncovered approximately 1.8 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine, and $322 in suspected drug dealing processes. Authorities say Sanders’s driver’s license was revoked. He has been charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance Tier 3, Possession of Controlled Substance Tier 3, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Revoked.
