The Austin Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a shooting at the Barton Creek Mall on Saturday. On December 21, 2023, APD detectives arrested 19-year-old Vincent Gutierrez in connection to the aggravated assault incident. Gutierrez is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Around 4:45 p.m. on December 16, 2023, APD officers responded to a report of shots fired at Barton Creek Mall in the 2900 block of South Capital of Texas Highway Northbound. At the scene, officers found one male subject with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information suggests four males, two in each group, met to complete a private party sale that was being sold on a social media platform. The victim was part of one group and they did not know each other before this encounter. Once the two parties met, a physical fight occurred and escalated into a shooting.

The suspects immediately fled the scene following the shooting.
