The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened this afternoon in the 1600 block of Southwest Buttercup Avenue. According to authorities, a child exchange occurred at the scene. At some point, an adult male resident and an adult male visitor got into a physical altercation in front of the residence.

The male resident reportedly went into the house while the visitor went back to his vehicle. While the male visitor was at his vehicle, the residence exited the home with a handgun and fired a shot at the male visitor. An unrelated vehicle was struck while the male visitor was not harmed.

The suspected shooter has been detained while Major Crimes Unit detectives investigate the matter. Authorities ask locals to avoid this area until the matter can be resolved.
