Update – The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on this attempted murder investigation. On December 24, 2023, the 60-year-old male victim passed away. The Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office are working to amend the original charges to reflect the change.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. The Coroner’s Office will also release the identity of the victim. Michael Joseph Lucky remains behind bars at the Boulder County Jail.
Original Story – The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 32-year-old man for attempted murder while he was out on bond. After midnight on December 19, 2023, a 911 call was received for medical assistance from a resident of a home off Portico Lane just outside of Longmont. First responders determined that the victim sustained blunt force trauma injuries in what appeared to be an attempted murder.
A 60-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries. The victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance before being flown to a Level 1 Trauma Center for additional treatment. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office quickly identified a suspect before multiple agents initiated a search.
Authorities believe the victim was specifically targeted by the suspect based on the suspect’s criminal history. The suspect was out of custody on bond in a case related to the victim’s daughter. The suspect’s vehicle was found near Plateau Road although it was unoccupied.
The suspect entered the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office headquarters this morning and was taken into custody. Michael Joseph Lucky is facing an array of charges including Murder in the First Degree. Lucky is also charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit a Class 1 Felony, First Degree Burglary, Stalking – Violating a Protection Order, Violation of a Protection Order, Domestic Violence, and two counts of Crime of Violence.
