According to a news release from the DC Metropolitan Police Department, agents with the Force Investigation Team are investigating an officer involved shooting involving an MPD officer. The shooting occurred in the 900 block of F Street NW on December 18, 2023.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers attempted to conduct an investigatory stop on a man in the area. Authorities say the man began to run when officers exited their vehicle and attempted to stop him. Officers chased the man. While running, the man allegedly displayed a firearm.

An officer discharged one round striking the man. Medics were dispatched to the scene. The man was later identified as 27-year-old Corey Darnell Branch. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Branch has been charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and six firearms related charges.
