The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a suspect in a homicide at an apartment complex in San Leandro. According to a social media post from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and EMS responded to an apartment complex on Miramar Avenue around 10:45 p.m. on October 8, 2023.
At the scene, deputies found 18-year-old Leandro Iquite suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators have developed leads and evidence over the past several months that identified 18-year-old Yefry Aquilar Rubio as one of the individuals responsible for Iquite’s death.
Authorities say Rubio was 17 when the crime occurred and just 18 the same month. Detectives claim Rubio’s 17-year-old girlfriend and his girlfriend’s 16-year-old brother were also involved in the homicide. Detectives allege that Rubio and his girlfriend began talking about harming the victim in June 2023.
They are also accused of luring the victim from Redwood City to San Leandro where he was killed. On December 13, 2023, search and arrest warrants were served at the suspects’ residences in Redwood City. The girlfriend and her brother were apprehended along with evidence related to the homicide.
Aguilar Rubio was in custody in San Mateo County on an unrelated offense. Investigators met Rubio and arrested him for Iquite’s murder.
