Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced today that a Cliffside Park, New Jersey man had been arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sex assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child. On December 12, 2023, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.

According to authorities, an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and FPD revealed that Bernardo Velazco sexually assaulted a child under 13 in Fairview while in a supervisory position. On December 12, Velazco was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, second-degree attempt to commit aggravated sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Velazco is considered a fugitive from justice.
