Authorities have announced charges against a Rio Verde, Arizona man in connection to making thefts against federal agents and employees. 37-year-old Michael Lee Tomasi was arrested on Friday following a grand jury decision to indict him on three counts of threats against a federal official and three counts of making interstate threats.
Court documents explain that Tomasi was living in Colorado and Arizona from May 2021 through November 2023. During that time, he allegedly used a social media platform to express a desire to incite violence and threaten a variety of individuals and groups, including a judge, federal officials, and law enforcement officers.
The charges are related to threats he allegedly made in Arizona to federal law enforcement agents and employees. If Tomasi is convicted, he will face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of making threats against a federal official. For each count of making interstate threats, he will face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
