Louisiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on LA-877 at LA-17 on December 17, 2023, before 10:00 a.m. Troopers initiated a preliminary investigation to determine a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban traveling west on LA-877 drove through a stop sign at LA-877 at LA-17, into the path of a 2020 Nissan Kicks traveling south on LA-17. The Nissan hit the Chevrolet.

The driver of the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban was identified as 30-year-old Mary Cantrell. The two passengers were not injured. Cantrell was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Kicks has not been identified at this time. The front-seat passenger was identified as 66-year-old Cheryl Muns of Epps, Louisiana. Muns was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
