DC Metro Police on the scene of firearm discharge involving a Special Police Officer

Update – Second District Commander Tatjana Savoy provided an update regarding the incident in which a Special Police Officer discharged a firearm. The discharge happened during a robbery in the 900 block of I Street NW. No injuries were reported. DC Metropolitan Police are still investigating the incident.

Around 5:32 PM, MPD responded to 959 I Street NW in reference to the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers learned that a group of individuals had entered the Chanel location. One was armed with a fire extinguisher which was used as a weapon when it was deployed. Two suspects held the door while four entered the retail location and stole an undetermined amount of merchandise before fleeing the scene.

An armed security guard employed by the store discharged one round. Savoy explained that there was no reported property damage or injuries. MPD is looking for a white sedan in relation to the incident. The armed security officer is private and not employed by MPD.
