Portland Police arrest Anthony Scott Taylor for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle

The Portland Police Bureau has announced that the driver of a stolen vehicle was apprehended by East Precinct officers. Investigators are searching for a possible attempted carjacking victim. According to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau, an East Precinct Public Safety Support Specialist found an occupied stolen vehicle, a gold 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, parked at SE 96th Avenue and SE Harold Street around 10:07 AM on November 29, 2023.

Officers tried to contact the driver and used their vehicles to box in the suspect vehicle. Authorities say the suspect crashed his way out and drove onto the sidewalk in an attempt to elude police. Spike strikes were deployed deflating two of the suspect’s tires.

Police say the suspect drove recklessly, ran stop signs, and drove in the oncoming lane. Eventually, the suspect crashed at SE 112th Avenue and SE Division Street before attempting to run away on foot. The suspect approached a white Kia sedan that was waiting for a traffic signal and attempted to rob the driver, but the door was locked.

Officers challenged the suspect who finally surrendered. Police say they found a stolen gun in the stolen Suburban as well as a stolen motorcycle. 44-year-old Anthony Scott Taylor was also wanted in a previous stolen vehicle case. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Taylor is booked on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Reckless Endangering Another Person, Attempt to Elude Police Officer by Vehicle, Attempt to Elude Police Officer on Foot, and Criminal Mischief. Police have not been able to identify the driver of the Kia that left the scene.

The Portland Police Bureau is asking that individual to contact them at  crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn: East Precinct Ofc Congdon, and reference case number 23-309047. If that person comes forward, Taylor could be facing more charges.
