State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that a Duval County jury had found Randall Brown guilty of First-Degree Murder and Armed Burglary with Assault or Battery. According to court proceedings, the incident happened on August 3, 2021 around 1 and 3 AM. The victim and his girlfriend awoke at his residence to the smell of gasoline and smoke.
They found out that the front door was on fire. The victim opened the door and found Brown pouring gasoline on the door frame and lighting it on fire. Brown allegedly attacked the victim stabbing him more than 80 times. As the attack continued, Brown moved to the kitchen while the victim was defenseless.
Around 3 AM, the victim’s girlfriend phoned 911 to report the fire and stabbing. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and provided life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries. While searching for Brown, authorities found a red plastic gas container, a backpack, a knife, the victim’s shirt, and a GPS tracking device registered to Brown.
Authorities also say the victim’s blood was found in Brown’s vehicle. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators later learned that the girlfriend, Kissy Mackey, had ended her relationship with Brown a few weeks prior. Around the time of the breakup, Mackey’s son died and she told Brown she was about to be rich.
Authorities say Brown knew Mackey was dating, but he attempted to win her back. He allegedly put a tracking device on her car to find out where she was sleeping. A day before the murder, Brown reportedly searched on Google how to kill someone with a knife and making other incriminating searches before and after the murder.
Hours after the crime, Mackey changed her Facebook status to “in a relationship” with Brown. She is being prosecuted separately and is charged with Accessory After the Fact.
