State’s Attorney Alison Healey announced that 24-year-old Luke Edward Powell had been convicted of Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, and Transporting a Handgun in a Vehicle after a nine-day jury trial.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that deputies responded to 2016 Cherry Road in Edgewood, Maryland in response to a 911 call of shots fired on September 5, 2022. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office learned that the shooting occurred at the intersection of Hanson Road and Edgewood Road.

The younger male victim knew Powell and identified him as the shooter. Powell resided at 2016 Cherry Road. The victim’s vehicle sustained damage from bullets, but neither victim was seriously injured.

Luke Edward Powell is scheduled to be sentenced on March 22, 2024.
