A 38-year-old man is in custody following an investigation into the murder of a juvenile that occurred in 2016. Darin Levi Thrailkill has been remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on first-degree and second-degree murder charges.

Grand Junction Police Department was notified of an unconscious male juvenile on July 2, 2016. St. Mary’s Hospital medical staff rendered life-saving measures but the juvenile was pronounced deceased.

The medical examiner’s office ruled the juvenile’s death a homicide.

Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Darin Levi Thrailkill on October 2023. Thrailkill was charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of the male juvenile.

Authorities located Thrailkill in North Port, Florida on October 3, 2023. In November, authorities extradited Thrailkill back to Mesa County.
