An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in Metairie. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto announced the officer-involved shooting around 1:39 p.m. via a social media post.
A deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department discharged his duty weapon during an attempted traffic stop and vehicle pursuit.
On December 11, 2023, A deputy tried to pull over a speeding vehicle at approximately 9:36 p.m. in the 3400 block of Houma Boulevard. When the female driver refused to stop, a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle “rammed” into several police cruisers.
A deputy discharged his firearm several times during the vehicle pursuit. No injuries were reported.
Deputies set up a road with their cruisers at the intersection of Cleary Avenue and Veterans Boulevard. The suspect vehicle came to a stop after crashing into a curb.
Officers found four unrestrained children passengers in the vehicle.
The female driver was remanded to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. The potential charges include aggravated criminal damage, aggravated flight, child endangerment, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The investigation is ongoing.
