A man is in custody after he allegedly assaulted a victim during an altercation related to a parking space and shopping cart. Charles Richardson of Waterbury, Vermont was arrested on simple assault and disorderly contact charges.

Berlin Police Department was dispatched to Walmart at 282 Berlin Mall Road on December 10, 2023, to investigate a report of an assault. At the scene, officers made contact with Richardson in the parking lot.

The investigation revealed a physical altercation broke out over a parking space and shopping cart. Officers arrested Richardson at the scene.

Berlin police received assistance from Vermont State Police Trooper Adam Aremburg.

According to a social media post from the Berlin Police Department, Richardson has a court date scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on January 18, 2024.
