According to a news release from the Nassau County Police Department, it is investigating a grand larceny and elder scam that occurred on Thursday, December 7, 2023, around 12:45 PM. Detectives say a 74-year-old female victim received a call from an unknown male claiming her son had been arrested.

The male subject informed the victim she would have to provide money for her son’s release. The subject told the victim to retrieve $26,000 and a courier would come by her residence to pick up the money. A short time later, two unidentified males arrived at the victim’s home, took the money, and left the scene.

Later, the victim realized she had fallen for a scam so she contacted law enforcement. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
