Detectives with the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department have made an arrest in a fatal shooting in Southwest DC. Seventh District officers responded to the Unit block of Forrester Street SW for the sounds of gunshots around 10:31 PM on August 1, 2023. Upon arrival, Seventh District officers found an adult male shooting victim.

Authorities say DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. After finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained at the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Darnell Gibson of Southwest DC.

Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 33-year-old Irv Duff Jr. on December 8, 2023. Duff is charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
