Detectives from the DC Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting in Northeast DC. Members of the Fifth District responded to the 1200 block of Brentwood Road Northeast in reference to a shooting just before 4 PM on September 17, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have identified the victim as 34-year-old Michael McKinney of Northeast DC.

On December 8, 2023, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and took 23-year-old Tyree Sanders into custody. Authorities say Sanders is charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
