USPS Postal Inspector Indicted On Mail Theft & Money Laundering In Louisiana

A 52-year-old Louisiana USPS Postal Inspector has been indicted on multiple charges, including money laundering and mail theft. Michael Morse of Madisonville played an important role in fighting crimes associated with mail.

The grand jury indictment alleges Morse unlawfully took a Priority Mail Express from a USPS processing and distribution center on November 12, 2020. The package contained an unspecified amount of cash, as well as a GPS tracking device.

Morse allegedly obstructed justice by trying to mislead the investigation. Morse committed money laundering when he knowingly invested the stolen cash into multiple precious metals and cryptocurrency accounts.

The federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Louisiana indicted Michael Morse on nine counts of money laundering, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of mail theft. One count of mail theft carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Each count of money laundering and one count of obstruction of justice carries a 20-year prison sentence.
