San Diego Police Department says a Police Sergeant has been shot

Update – Around 10 PM on December 7, 2023, the San Diego Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle along with a suspect description. Around 11:30 PM, officers located the vehicle in the shopping plaza in the 10500 block of 4S Commons Drive in San Diego. The suspect was reportedly inside a store.

Authorities say officers attempted to contact the suspect who fled from the store. While outside, the suspect fired at least one round at officers. One officer was struck in the head. Multiple officers discharged their firearms leading to the suspect being struck multiple times. Medical aid was rendered to the suspect and the officer. They were transported to the hospital. The suspect was pronounced deceased around 1 AM.

The Police Sergeant is in serious but stable condition.
