Upland pharmacy burglary leads to pursuit and arrest of multiple suspects and fatality

The Upland Police Department is investigating a burglary at a pharmacy on North 13th Avenue. According to a social media post from the Upland Police Department, dispatch received a call of a burglary at a pharmacy in the 600 block of North 13th Avenue around 4:39 AM on December 6, 2023. As officers were en route, the business owner called and said he was watching the burglary on video cameras.

The owner said there were three suspects and one was shooting at the safe with a firearm. As officers reached the scene, the suspects ran to a stolen Dodge Charger Hellcat that immediately fled. During a police pursuit, the suspect vehicle approached train tracks when the railroad warnings activated.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop leading to a collision with a Metrolink train. The collision caused major damage to the Charger which immediately caught fire. The driver of the stolen Hellcat tried to flee but was quickly apprehended. Two injured suspects were detained after they exited the vehicle. A fourth suspect was found in the front passenger’s seat. They were dragged from the wreckage.

The fourth suspect had serious burns to his entire body. He was transported to a trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities believe the same vehicle and suspects may be connected to a pharmacy burglary in Claremont that happened just before the Upland incident.

The driver of the Dodge Charger Hellcat was booked for murder and other charges.
