Ames, Iowa – The Ames Police Department said in a statement that it is investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment on South 5th Street.

According to APD, officers responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. on January 18 and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
