24-year-old Carlos Jones II has been sentenced to life in prison in the shooting death of 23-year-old Sha’Dayla Johnson. Circuit Judge Steve Henderson sentenced Jones after a Brevard County Jury convicted him of second-degree murder on September 13, 2023. Assistant State Attorneys Nader Hatoum and Kari Kies successfully argued that Jones should receive a life sentence for murder.
Jones was indicted for first-degree murder on January 17, 2023. The jury convicted him of the lessor included offense of second-degree murder while discharging a firearm causing death. Melbourne Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim at 2827 Colbert Circle just before 8 AM on December 20, 2022.
At the scene, officers located Sha’Dayla Johnson unresponsive in the carport of her residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was transported to a local hospital where she later passed away. Authorities say witnesses said Johnson’s former live-in boyfriend, Carlos Jones, had been at the home before the shooting.
At 11 AM, Palm Bay Police reported that Jones had entered the police station lobby and surrendered. Investigators say Jones admitted to his involvement in the shooting following a dispute over not responding to his calls or text messages. Jones will be transferred to the Florida Department of Corrections in the coming days.
