Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrests man for attempted murder after firearm discharge

Franklin County, Kansas – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 53-year-old Marion “Gene” Ferris. According to FCSO, deputies responded to a residence outside Pomona due to a physical altercation that ended with a firearm discharged into a vehicle on January 13, 2025.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said the incident began as a disturbance among family in the 3000 block of Georgia Road. The argument escalated and turned physical. One person required medical care due to injuries sustained.

Authorities allege that the injured party attempted to leave the scene when Marion Ferris allegedly discharged a firearm into the vehicle hitting a tire. At the time, the vehicle was occupied by three people, including a three-year-old child.

The injuries were not life-threatening and were not related to gunfire. Ferris was located at his residence in Richmond. FCSO says he refused to come outside.

An hour later, he attempted to flee from the rear and was taken into custody. Ferris is charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Threat, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Damage to Property, and Felony Interference with Law Enforcement.
