Auraceli A. Maldonado arrested in connection to Roxbury Motel shooting

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced that 24-year-old Auraceli A. Maldonado, of Irvington, had been arrested in connection to a shooting of a man at the Roxbury Motel on October 18, 2023. Authorities were informed that a man had been shot at the Roxbury Motel on Route 46 just before 9 PM on October 18, 2023.

Roxbury Police were dispatched to the scene where they located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The 36-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Authorities say the victim had planned to meet an unknown suspect at the motel.

Surveillance video reportedly captured a Honda Accord with a New York registration arrive at the motel’s parking lot before a man and woman exit the vehicle. Authorities allege that these individuals met the victim and the woman was armed with an AR-style rifle. The two suspects are accused of robbing the victim who was shot in the leg during a struggle for the firearm.

Authorities say the investigation revealed that Maldonado was the registered owner of a Honda Accord which was observed in East Hanover a short time after the incident. Maldonado was apprehended in Middleburg, Florida on November 2, 2023. The male suspect has not been charged or arrested at this time.

Auraceli Maldonado is facing charges of Armed Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Maldonado was extradited to New Jersey and is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility.
