Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office hold a press conference on the murder of 23-year-old Miguel Angel Prado. Detectives released a timeline of what led up to the murder.
Deputies with the Compton Sheriff’s Office received a report of a deadly weapon on August 18, 2023, at about 12:46 a.m. in the 100 block of E. Caldwell Street. At the scene, deputies found Prado in the driver’s seat of an SUV outside his apartment. Prado sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving treatment was rendered at the scene but was unsuccessful.
Following an investigation, detectives determined Prado and his girlfriend were inside their vehicle when a light-colored sedan was seen approaching and stopping just west of the SUV. An adult male approached the vehicle from the driver’s side, where Prado was sitting.
The male suspect looked through the window, inside the vehicle. Prado started the vehicle and tried to accelerate away. The suspect fired multiple shots, striking Prado in the upper torso. The SUV struck a vehicle parked on the north side of the street.
Following the shooting, the light-colored sedan was last seen traveling west on Caldwell Street to southbound Willowbrook Avenue.
Detectives believe Prado was an innocent victim in a gang-related incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone would information regarding the fatal shooting of Miguel Angel Prado should contact the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
