Aberdeen, Maryland – The Harford County Sheriff’s Office announced that a mother is in custody after being charged in the death of her five-and-a-half-month-old baby.

According to HCCSO, Criminal Investigations Division detectives responded to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Trauma Center after a report from CPS of suspected child abuse on December 29, 2024.

Detectives say the baby was brought to the hospital with multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds, a fractured leg, and numerous other life-threatening injuries.

Authorities carried out a search of the child’s residence in the 200 block of Mayberry Drive in Aberdeen. Detectives say the child’s mother, 32-year-old Maya Dennis, had sole custody of the child when the injuries were inflicted.

The infant girl passed away on December 31, 2024. Dennis was charged with 1st Degree Murder and 1st Degree Child Abuse after allegedly making statements indicating she was responsible for the child’s fatal injuries.

Dennis was arrested while at the hospital and booked into the Harford County Detention Center.
