Tucumcari, New Mexico – The New Mexico State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at the Quay County Family Health Center on December 30, 2024.
According to NMSP, agents learned that a 911 call came in from a female saying her husband was shot around 4:10 p.m. Police allege that 56-year-old Anthony Kent was arguing with another male in the parking lot of the health center.
The argument allegedly escalated leading to Kent brandishing a firearm and discharging multiple rounds. The man’s wife exited the center after hearing shots. Police say she brandished a weapon and pointed it toward Kent to try to stop him from firing his weapon.
Kent allegedly retrieved an AR-15 style-rifle and began firing it toward the man and his wife. The man was struck by gunfire, but his wife was not injured. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Kent has been booked into the Quay County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Shooting at or from a Motor Vehicle.
