The DC Metropolitan Police Department has announced the apprehension of a wanted murder suspect with help from the United States Marshals Task Force. Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced that a wanted suspect in a homicide had been apprehended.
Around 5:16 PM on November 16, 2023, Fifth District officers responded to the 2200 block of New York Avenue in reference to a shooting. Once officers reached the scene, they located a man suffering from gunshot wound injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.
The victim was later identified as 38-year-old Carlos Javier-Blanco Fernandez. On December 4, 2023, members of the United States Marshals Task Force apprehended 23-year-old Eliexander Lopez-Burgos in Glendale, Colorado. Authorities say Lopez-Burgos was wanted on an arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Murder while Armed.
After the extradition process, Lopez-Burgos will be returned to DC where he will face charges.
