Anderson Police Department arrests substitute teacher Stephen Canciani for allegedly exposing himself to class of children

The Anderson Police Department has arrested a substitute teacher who allegedly exposed himself to a class of children. A social media post from the Anderson Police Department explains that officers responded to Anderson Middle School for a report of a substitute teacher who exposed himself to a class around noon on December 5.

The teacher was identified by the school as 32-year-old Stephen Canciani from Connecticut. The vice principal informed police that two students came to her officer and told her they could see Canciani’s bare buttocks and that his pants were partially down, according to authorities.

When the vice principal visited the classroom, she allegedly found Canciani with his pants and underwear down to his mid-thigh area. The vice principal reportedly told Canciani he needed to leave before escorting him off campus and calling the Anderson Police Department.

Authorities say they obtained statements from several students that led to an arrest warrant for Canciani for indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child. Investigators spent the afternoon and evening learning more about the accused’s whereabouts before arranging a peaceful surrender at the Anderson Police Department tonight at 8:30 PM.

After being arrested, Canciani was booked into the Shasta County Jail. Authorities believe Canciani has substituted at other Shasta County Schools. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Anderson Police Department at 530-245-6526 and reference case number APD23-006035.
