The Monroe Police Department has announced an arrest in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy. According to MPD, a 17-year-old has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property.
Although the juvenile is charged as an adult, his identity cannot be released, according to MPD. The 12-year-old victim has been identified as Messiah Barrino. The 15-year-old victim remains in the hospital and is expected to recover.
Police say the shooting occurred in the 600 block of Skywatch Lane just before 6:30 p.m. on December 7, 2024. Police believe the shooting occurred during a large street fight on Skywatch Lane.
