Butte County Sheriff’s Office on scene of shooting at Feather River School in Palermo

Update 2 – The Butte County Sheriff’s Office says CHP received an initial 911 call from the school reporting an active shooter on campus at 1:08 p.m. CHP dispatched an officer and transferred the call to BCSO. At 1:10 p.m., the first CHP officer arrived and was directed to the suspect who was down on the ground.

According to Sheriff Kory Honea, the officer secured the firearm next to the suspect who appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. BCSO deputies arrived and immediately rendered aid to two students. Others searched the facility to ensure there were no more suspects.

The students were moved to the gymnasium until they could be moved from the campus. Officials say the reunification process went as smoothly as possible under the circumstances. One victim has been identified as six-year-old Roman Mendez.

The other victim has been identified as five-year-old Elias Wolford. Both boys are in critical condition. Both have a lengthy recovery ahead of them and will likely require multiple surgeries. BCSO has identified the suspect as 56-year-old Glenn Nathan Litton who was recently described as homeless.

Police say Litton has a lengthy criminal history and mental health issues. A few days prior to the shooting, Litton called the school to arrange a meeting with an administrator about enrolling his grandson. He used the name Michael Sanders which was also on a fake driver’s license Litton had at one time.

Litton arrived at the school and spoke to the school’s principal. Officials say Litton did not have a grandson and the story was a ruse to have access to the campus. BCSO says it has been working diligently to try to identify a motive for the shooting. Officials say there is written information that is believed to have come from Litton.

Litton wrote about an International Alliance and being a lieutenant of the group. Police have been working to determine whether there is an International Alliance. At this point, officials say they have not been able to identify a group calling themselves the International Alliance.

Litton discussed the attacks in Yemen in his writings.

Among Litton’s writing was the following. “Countermeasure involving child executions has now been imposed at the Seventh Day Adventist School in California, United States by The International Alliance.

I, Lieutenant Glenn Litton of the Alliance carried out countermeasure in necessitated response to Americas involvement with Genocide and Oppression of Palestinians along with attacks towards Yemen.”

Update – Authorities say two children were wounded in the shooting and the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The wounded children were taken to area hospitals. One was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Their conditions are not known at this time.
