Oak Park Police announce charges against suspect in shooting death of Detective Allan Reddins

The Oak Park Police Department says a 37-year-old Chicago man with an extensive criminal background has been charged in the fatal shooting of an OPPD officer.

The fatal shooting occurred on November 29 in the 800 block of Lake Street in Oak Park. Police say Jerell Thomas has been charged with First-Degree Murder in connection to the fatal shooting.

Investigators allege that Reddins was shot after responding to a call of a person observed with a gun leaving the Chase Bank in the 1000 block of Lake Street.

Thomas also suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and has been receiving treatment at Loyola Medical Center. At this time, Thomas remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Thomas is a habitual criminal with a history of arrests for Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, Battery, Resisting a Police Officer, and Domestic Battery.
