Gwinnett County Police say stolen excavator leads to chop shop discovery

The Gwinnett County Police Department reports that a stolen excavator led to the discovery of a chop shop. According to GCPD, 46-year-old Larry Dobbs of Norcross was arrested for operating a chop shop.

On November 26, officers were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call. GPD says the owner reported his mini excavator had been stolen and he had a GPS tracker on it.

GPD says its officers responded to 846 Rockbridge Way where the excavator was visible from the street. Motor Vehicle Theft Unit detectives responded to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the premises.

According to police, over $100,000 in property was recovered from the residence. Authorities claim to have recovered two excavators, a stolen SUV, three vehicles with altered VINs, two stolen motorcycles, a trailer, fentanyl, oxycodone, and a stolen handgun.

Dobbs is facing numerous charges, including Operating a Chop Shop, Theft by Taking, Felony Theft by Receiving x3, Misdemeanor Theft by Receiving, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2x, Felony Altered VIN 3x, and Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime.

Dobbs was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.
