The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man is dead following a short police pursuit. According to CCSO, deputies attempted to carry out an arrest warrant on Jeffrey Keith Leger of Petrolia, Texas around 11:50 a.m. on November 22, 2024.

CCSO says deputies found Leger driving on FM 810 and initiated a traffic stop. As deputies approached Leger’s truck, he allegedly drove off leading to a short pursuit.

The pursuit ended at Leger’s residence on River Road in Petrolia. CCSO reports that deputies exited their vehicles and heard a gunshot discharged from Leger’s truck.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies found Leger incapacitated from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to authorities, no weapons were discharged by deputies and no others were involved.

Leger was pronounced deceased by a Clay County Magistrate. No other details are available at this time.
