The Ames Police Department reports that it is investigating a shooting after a woman suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body.

According to APD, its officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the 4700 block of Mortensen Road around 2:53 p.m. on November 20, 2024.

At the scene, police found a female with a gunshot wound. APD says the victim was transported to MercyOne Medical Center. At this time, her medical status is unknown.

APD says its officers arrested a suspect in the 4500 block of Mortensen Road around 3:16 p.m. Authorities say 33-year-old Lyndon N. Dembry of Chicago has been charged with Attempted Murder, Dominion and Control of a Firearm by a Felon, and Domestic Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon.
